
HISTORY / BACKGROUND
The Institute for Executive Development (IED) was established in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1990 by Rick Culley. Rick has more than 30 years of experience as a corporate executive, university professor and management consultant. He began his career in New York at the World Trade Center for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and subsequently at the New York Stock Exchange. In both organizations, he was responsible for Executive and Leadership Development.
MISSION / EXPERTISE
The mission of the Institute for Executive Development is to provide the right service in the right way at the right time. When he started, Rick positioned the company to support this mission by focusing on his three areas of expertise: Executive Coaching, Leadership Development, and Strategic Planning.
APPROACH / FOCUS
The approach at IED has been very consistent. We have focused on working with good people and organizations to help them get even better. We know from our experience and research that the best people are the most interested in getting better.
We provide informative, insightful and highly relevant learning experiences. This is done by tailoring and customizing what we do to the specific needs of the client. Everything begins by carefully assessing and diagnosing the issue(s) before we recommend and propose solutions or options.
RESEARCH BASED
Our programs and processes are research-based building on leading practices, best in class, and our 30 years of expertise. This includes utilizing the proven methodology of global leaders such as the Marshall Goldsmith Coaching Process. For leadership and strategic planning, we draw from those whose work we know and trust. This includes some of the very best such as Jim Kouzes, Joel Barker, Frances Hesselbein, and John Izzo to mention just a few.

We are home-based in Las Vegas, but we’ve worked with organizations across the country, in Canada and in Europe.
A sample of corporate clients include the American Management Association, Aria Hotel, AT&T, Bellagio Resort, Booz-Allen, Citibank, Hitachi, MGM Resorts International, Merrill Lynch, Peat Marwick, Quicklogic, The Mirage, UCB Pharmaceuticals, Weyerhaeuser, and Wynn Resorts.
We have worked with a significant number of public agencies such as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority, Southern Nevada Water Authority, and the United States Postal Service.
In addition, we work with non-profit and educational organizations that include The Smith Center for Performing Arts, the University of California, University of Southern California, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, College of Hotel Administration.
